BanglaHunt Desk: Business Standard said on Monday that Reliance Geo sought the government's permission to conduct 5G trials based on design and technology. Telco giant Geo had earlier announced that it would expand its 5G trial run and not limit itself to Samsung, by partnering with Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia networks.
The Korean electronics giant was Jio's original supplier for 4G equipment, it said. Two companies, India Mobile Congress, presented new business opportunities for 5G use in 2019. If the tests are successful, Gio could outsource the design and technology of the equipment to third-party players, the report said.
The Nasdaq-listed Radices Corp., a company which was acquired by RIL in June 2018, said in IMC 2019 that they would work with the industry to develop a 5G ecosystem in India, according to a previous report.
If successful, Geo will be the first Indian telecom to have created separate 5G designs and technologies for the country. Jio's competitors Vodafone Idea and Airtel are currently working with Nokia, Ericsson and Huawei to design 5G telecom equipment.
In December 2019, the Center said it would provide the spectrum for telecom operators and equipment makers in 5G trials. Initially, telecom players will conduct trials with vendor partners, after which vendors including Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Huawei and ZTE have done so independently in the second period, according to previous reports.
