Deepika-Jahnbi's film 'Jallikattu' to win Oscar

BanglaHunt Desk: The Malayalam film 'Jallikattu' has been nominated for an Oscar as an Indian film, leaving behind the Bollywood film. The film won a place in the Best International Feature Film category at the 93rd Academy Awards. The film starring Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan has entered the competition after losing to Hela.

This Malayalam film has been selected from a total of 26 films. That list included pictures like Chhapak, Shakuntala Devi, Gunjan Saxena, Chalang, Gulabo Sitabo, Dadhya Sky Is Pink, Bulbul. Jallikattu is highly praised for its subject matter, production and direction by the Film Federation of India, Chairman of the Jury Board Rahul Rawal.

This film is based on S. Harish's short story Maoist. The film was well received at the film festival. The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. The film was then screened at the 24th Busan International Film Festival.

Lijo Jose Pelisari won the title of Best Director for Jallikattu at the 50th Indian International Film Festival. Incidentally, last year Zoya Akhtar's Alley Boy also dropped out of the Oscar race. The picture could not be selected for the nomination.
