Banglahant Desk: Sri Venkateswara Swamy Vaari Temple (Tirupati Balaji Temple) is one of the most famous rich temples in India. Located in the hill town of Tirumala in Tirupati, Chittor district of Andhra Pradesh, this temple is the abode of Lord Vishnu. This temple is also known as Tirumala Temple and Tirupati Balaji Temple.
According to the Puranas, Lord Vishnu appeared in Tirumala as 'Vekteshwar' to liberate human society from the sorrows and pains of the Kali Yuga. Located at an altitude of 653 m above sea level, the temple has seven peaks at the foot of the hill. Sheshadri, Niladri, Garuradri, Anjanadri, Brishvadri, Narayanadri and Benkatadri are also considered by the Hindus to be the seven heads of Adishesh.
The sanctum sanctorum of this temple, built around 300 BC, is called 'Ananda-Nilayam'. In this temple, however, the main deity is seated facing east. Thousands of devotees visit this temple every day. However, devotees are not given much time to visit the temple. It is said that life becomes blessed just by seeing God for a few seconds.
One thing about this temple of Tirupati Balaji in Andhra Pradesh has been prevalent since ancient times. Devotees come to this temple to donate money, wealth and hair. But this is not a common thing, there is a myth behind it.
It is said that a minor shepherd unknowingly hit Lord Vekateswara on the head. Then the hair of some part of his head fell out. A Gandharva princess named Niladevi saw this incident. Lord Vekateswara was endowed with immense beauty. So then Princess Niladevi thinks that there should be no stain on the beauty of Lord Vekteshwar. Work as you think. Then Princess Niladevi cut the hair of her head and replaced it with the head of Lord Vekteshwar with the help of magic.
Hair is one of the ornaments of a woman. Every woman wants to have beautiful hair. Since Princess Niladevi did not think of her own beauty but gave her hair to Lord Vekateswara thinking of her beauty, Lord Vekateswara also made a promise to Princess Niladevi. Lord Vekteshwar did not let this sacrifice of Princess Niladevi fail.
He promised that every devotee who came to this Vekteshwar temple would offer their own hair to Lord Vekteshwar. And Princess Niladevi will get that hair in real sense. Thus even today every devotee who comes to this temple sacrifices his hair in the name of God.
Tirupati Balaji's temple in Andhra Pradesh is in the second place in the list of rich temples. Every day thousands of devotees visit this temple. As a result of the daily gathering of innumerable devotees at this Tirupati Balaji temple of Lord Vekateswara Swami, i.e. the pilgrimage of Lord Vishnu, about Rs. 650 crore is deposited in the treasury every year.
