After the incident, the Indian Army launched a search operation around the entire area. The encounter is still going on. Earlier on Sunday, five security personnel, including an army colonel and a major, were killed in an army encounter with militants in Kupwara, a border district in north Kashmir.

Two militants were killed in the encounter yesterday. One of the two militants was a Pakistani. And he is one of the top commanders of Lashkar.

Among the soldiers killed yesterday were Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, CO of 21 State Rifles, Major Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector Shakil Kazi, officials said. All the soldiers who were martyred belonged to the 21 State Rifles.
