BanglaHunt Desk: In the middle of the night, an earthquake shook the capital Delhi and surrounding areas. The quake had a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale. As soon as the tremors were felt, ordinary people left their houses and went out on the streets. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
The quake was felt around 48 minutes past 11 pm on Thursday. The epicenter was reported 48 km southwest of Gurugram in Haryana at Alwar in Rajasthan. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake started at a depth of 6.5 km from the surface. The quake was also felt in Rajasthan and Manipur within 24 hours.
Apart from Delhi, the tremors were felt in Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. As soon as the tremor was felt, all the locals left their houses and came out on the streets. The epicenter was reported below the ground, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
On October 10, 1958, Bulandshahr experienced the strongest tremor in the area around the capital. The level was 6.7 on the Richter scale. Then a magnitude 5.6 earthquake was felt in Mordabad on 15 August 1986.
