BanglaHunt Desk: Indigenous people of Chhattisgarh have been greatly relieved by the lockdown of Corona. Mahua of 18 rupees will be sold for 30 rupees this time, the forest dwellers are happy with the decision of the government. The decision is expected to benefit 4 million indigenous peoples.
Recently, the Forest Minister of Chhattisgarh, Mohammad Akbar, held a meeting with all the officials of the Forest Department through video conferencing. During the meeting, the forest minister directed the officials to buy Mahua flowers for Tk 30 under the Van Dhan Yojana. At the same time, the Forest Minister has requested all women self-help groups and managers to buy Mahua flowers in maximum quantity.
Mahua is an important source of income for the tribals in Chhattisgarh and forest resources have become the backbone of the rural economy. The forest tribes make a living by collecting mahua, drying it and selling it at support prices. The government has given relief to the tribals during the lockdown by increasing the support price of Mahua.
This decision of the government has created a storm of joy among the forest dwellers. Kumar Mandavi, a tribal farmer, told Gram Sanyog, “This year, the weather has damaged the Mahua crop in many places. This decision of the government will definitely give us relief in such a crisis. This move is commendable. ”
On the other hand, Ghanshyam Juri, a tribal farmer from Paliva village in North Bastar, says, “It is a very good step to improve the rural economy during the lockdown. It will improve the livelihood of the tribals.” If the tribals produce forest from forest, they will not face any problem if they get the price. ”
However, at the meeting, the forest minister instructed the officials to stay at least three feet away from the vicinity when buying Mahua flowers and to use the properly accustomed mask following the social distance.
