Shyam Kishore Sharma, in-charge of the police station, was killed in the encounter. He said the Naxals fled after firing from both sides for a long time. Later, when the army searched the spot, the bodies of four Naxalites, including two female Naxalites, were found there. In addition to an AK-47, an SLR and two other tools were recovered.

The police official said the body of the martyred sub-inspector was taken to the district headquarters in Rajnandgaon. He said operations were underway against Naxals in the area. Earlier, on July 12, 2009, nine policemen, including Superintendent of Police BK Choubey, were killed during an encounter in the area.
