Pakistan re-imposes ban on sugar-cotton imports from India

BanglaHunt Desk: Imran Khan changed his mind. Despite agreeing to import cotton and sugar from India, Imran Khan changed his mind after spending another 24 hours. The Pakistani government has made it clear that nothing will be imported from India until a decision is taken on Jammu and Kashmir.

Although two neighboring countries, India and Pakistan have never had good relations since the beginning of time. However, the problem is exacerbated by the militant attack on Pulwama in 2019 and the lifting of India’s Article 370 over Jammu and Kashmir.

After this incident, Pakistan did not agree to import anything from India. Islamabad imposed a complete ban on imports from India. But two years later, when India-Pakistan relations are taking a turn for the worse, Pakistan wanted to import cotton and sugar from India again.

India agreed to Pakistan’s decision. The reason India said – India never imposed a ban on exporting anything to Pakistan, Pakistan objected. So the Pakistani government can only import sugar and cotton from India.

But on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the lifting of trade sanctions on India, the Pakistani government changed its mind. The Pakistani cabinet has not been able to agree with the government on imports from India. At the cabinet meeting, Human Rights Minister Shirin Mazari, Sheikh Rashid, Mehmood Qureshi and Finance Minister Asad Umar demanded that if India could not restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, it would not be possible to normalize relations with them. Shortly after the cabinet decision, the Pakistani government announced that Pakistan would not import sugar or cotton from India.
