The Kejriwal government in Delhi has approved a UAPA case against Umar Khalid

Bangla Hunt Desk: The Delhi government and the home ministry have agreed to prosecute Umar Khalid and others in the Delhi violence case. Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police in a violence case under UAPA. By law, the UAPA section requires the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs to prosecute someone.

Delhi Police got permission about a week ago. The Delhi Police will soon file a UAPA section chargesheet against Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the Delhi violence case. The Crime Branch will also file a chargesheet against Umar Khalid.

Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police on September 14 for his alleged involvement in the Delhi violence. The Karkaduma court has remanded Umar Khalid in custody till November 20. A request was made by the Delhi Police to extend the custody for another 30 days.

Omar Khalid's lawyer opposed the Delhi Police's plea, saying he had cooperated in all possible ways with the police investigation. But police allege that Umar did not cooperate with them. The plea filed by the Delhi Police to increase his custody is baseless.

The Delhi Police has told the Karkaduma court that the case is still under investigation and it would not be appropriate to grant bail to Umar Khalid during the investigation. The court then extended the police custody of Umar Khalid until November 20. Umar Khalid is still in police custody.
