This is not a new bloody conflict, the history of the 120-year-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict

BanglaHunt Desk: The conflict that started between Israel and Palestine is now turning into a war. Many top commanders of the militant group Hamas have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday. On the other hand, Hamas rocket attacks have also killed many Israelis. An Indian national was also killed. So far, 60 people have been killed in the clashes. Let me say that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is nothing new, it has been going on for 120 long years.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine began with the establishment of an independent state for the people of the Jewish and Arab worlds. Violence and tensions in the region have continued since the United States recognized Israel’s existence in 1948.

  • There were many movements in the golf countries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, demanding the establishment of an independent state for the Jews and the Arab world.
  • Palestinian nationalism was at its peak in the 1920s, and millions of Arab citizens protested against the arrival of Jews in Jerusalem.
  • In 1948, the United Nations divided Palestine into two parts, Israel for the Jews and Palestine for the Arab world. Then the Arab world protested and civil war broke out.
  • The Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, the East and West Coasts of Jerusalem, has been embroiled in a series of wars and violence in the Gulf state since 1978, and the two countries have been embroiled in border disputes ever since.

Why is Jerusalem the center of conflict?

There is a hill called ‘Temple Mount’ in the middle of Old Jerusalem. That mountain is known as the holiest place for the Jews. Among Muslims, the place is known as ‘Haram As-Sharif’. Pilgrimage sites like Al-Aqsa Mosque, Qubbat Al-Sakhra are present there. Christians, on the other hand, believe that Jesus Christ preached there, that he was crucified, and that he reappeared shortly thereafter.

Israel considers the whole of Jerusalem as its undivided capital. And Palestine wants to establish its capital east of Jerusalem. However, the international community did not recognize the region as part of Israel.
