Thousands of Dhoni fans have appealed to the BCCI to retire Dhoni's No. 7 jersey soon after his retirement from international cricket. Besides, Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA PC Sharma has requested that Dhoni be given the “Bharat Ratna”. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has also requested the BCCI to arrange a farewell match for Dhoni in Ranchi.

This time a special seat has been proposed in the name of Dhoni at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association has been asked to arrange a special seat in Dhoni's name at the Wankhede Stadium where the six that Dhoni hit in the 2011 World Cup final helped India win the World Cup.
