Reserve Bank of India chief, Shaktikanta Das was awarded the title of ‘Governor of the Year’ for 2023 by the Central Banking in London. Central Banking is an International Economic Research Journal. This award has been given to the RBI Governor for handling India’s banking system in the best way during Inflation Management, Kovid-19 Pandemic and Global Crisis. According to Central Banking, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has made many important reforms in the country and he has led India in difficult times.

In March 2023, it was recommended by the publication to give him this award. He was awarded the title for his leadership of the central bank during global turmoil and difficult times. He has deftly managed India’s central bank and the entire banking system during the Covid-19 pandemic, NBFCs, Russia-Ukraine war etc.

Earlier the award has been given to the RBI governor. In the year 2020, he has been awarded the Central Banker of the Year, Asia Pacific Award. Born on 26 February in the year 1957, Shaktikanta Das started his education from Bhubaneswar city of Odisha. After that, he obtained BA and then Master’s degree in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. In the year 2021, he was awarded the degree of delete from Ulkal University.

Worked in many roles before governor

Before becoming the RBI governor, he has worked on many important positions in the state and central government. Shaktikanta Das is a retired 1980 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. While being an IAS, he worked on many important positions in Tamil Nadu and Central Government, especially in the responsibilities related to Economic Expert. In which, apart from the Secretary of Economic Affairs, Revenue Secretary, Fertilizers Secretary, he has played the role of Alternate Governor for India in World Bank, ADB, NDB and AIIB. He has also led India in many international platforms IMF, G20, BRICS, SAARC.
