BanglaHunt Desk: The villagers were overjoyed when they went to renovate an ancient temple in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. But their joy was short-lived. The villagers found half a kilo of gold under the ground while renovating the temple. But the authorities disappointed the villagers and handed it over to the government.

There are a large number of temples in Uterameru, about 90 km from Chennai. This region is also commonly called the city of temples. There was a temple of Lord Shiva built in ancient times. But due to lack of maintenance, the temple was slowly deteriorating. But the locals are interested in renovating the temple.

While renovating the temple, the villagers found a gold object weighing half a kilo, or about 575 grams, under the stairs of the sanctum sanctorum. The villagers were overjoyed to see this gold item. But local officials say it would be better to hand over the property to the government rather than keep it to themselves. But on the other hand the villagers refused to give it. The two parties got involved in a quarrel.

When the police were informed, a large police force appeared. Despite the villagers' objections, the police confiscated the gold and took it away. All those items were deposited in the government treasury on Sunday.
Angry villagers said it was a good thing to keep gold under the steps of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. The authorities have done a great injustice by taking away that gold. Village officials have done great injustice to the people of the Hindu community.
